Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday caught Mamata Bastia, ASI of police, Sahid Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar UPD, red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 bribe from a complainant to help her in a case in which the ASI was an investigating officer (IO). The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of ASI Bastia and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous house searches are underway at two locations linked to Bastia.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered in this connection at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station.
Investigation is underway against accused ASI Mamata Bastia and detailed reports are awaited.
