Sambalpur: An FIR has been lodged against a teacher of Kendriya Vidyalaya I at the Panchagachiya area under Bareilpali police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for allegedly sexually harassing a female student of the school.
The accused has been identified as a teacher in the school’s English Department.
According to reports, the accused teacher molested the victim inside the classroom after asking all other students to leave the room. When the victim raised an alarm, the teacher fled the room. However, acting on the victim and other students’ complaints, the school chairman summoned the police and handed over the accused teacher to the latter.
Meanwhile, the student’s family and the school principal have both lodged separate FIRs against the accused at the Bareilpali police station.
Puspanjali Panda, Sambalpur Sub Collector who is probing the incident on behalf of the district administration, said, “We received a complaint in this regard on Thursday morning. We are probing the matter and will ensure that justice is done to the student.” She, however, refused to divulge any further details.
