Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for a Rs 451.24 crore water supply project in Sambalpur, aiming to provide 24-hour clean drinking water to the city’s residents.

The project involves laying 340 km of water pipeline, constructing an intake well, and setting up two modern water treatment plants with capacities of 65 MLD and 35 MLD.

Speaking to the media, Majhi said the project will provide 100 million liters of drinking water daily, benefiting around 5 lakh people across 41 wards. The city currently faces a water shortage of 30 million liters per day, which will be addressed post-project completion.

The project is part of the Centre’s “Amrit 2.0” scheme’s “Drink from Tap” initiative, ensuring residents get clean drinking water directly from taps without needing filtration. This is expected to improve the standard of living in Sambalpur.

On this occasion, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water and Rural Development Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, former MLA Nauri Naik, District Collector Bondar Siddeshwar Baliram were prominently present.
