Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at isolated places over several districts of Odisha during the next five days, even as maximum temperatures are set to rise by 4-5°C in the next 48 hours.
In its midday weather bulletin issued at 2 pm IST today, the IMD said no significant synoptic system is affecting the region. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at one or two places over Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal districts in the past 24 hours, while the rest of Odisha remained dry. Chief rainfall amounts included 2 cm each at Kalinga and Tikabali in Kandhamal, 1 cm at Khajuripada (Kandhamal) and 1 cm at Kaptipada (Mayurbhanj).
Maximum temperatures registered a marked fall of 4-10°C at many places in north interior Odisha and were markedly below normal by 6-10°C over interior districts. The day’s highest maximum temperature was 37.5°C at Nuapada. Minimum temperatures were also below normal in parts of north interior Odisha, with the lowest minimum of 18.0°C recorded at Phulbani.
Five-day outlook
Day 1 (valid till 0830 hrs IST April 2): Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm very likely at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
Day 2 & 3: Rain/thunderstorm confined to isolated places over Malkangiri and Koraput.
Day 4: Rain likely over Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.
Day 5: Rain/thundershower expected over coastal Odisha and several interior districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.
Yellow Warning (Be Aware) issued for all five days
Hot and humid conditions are very likely at one or two places over Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30-40 kmph) is very likely during afternoon/evening hours at isolated places over multiple districts including Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and others, depending on the day.
Maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 4-5°C during the next two days, remain steady for the following two days, and then fall by 2-3°C thereafter.
Bhubaneswar forecast (next 24 hours): Partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunderstorm or lightning. Maximum and minimum temperatures very likely to be around 37°C and 24°C respectively.
No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.
