Bhubaneswar: Proceedings in the Odisha Assembly were disrupted on Tuesday as BJD and Congress MLAs demanded the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling following the SCB Medical College and Hospital fire that claimed 12 lives.
As soon as the House reconvened, opposition MLAs trooped into the Well, waving banners and shouting slogans, ignoring repeated appeals from Speaker Surama Padhy to return to their seats. The Speaker was forced to adjourn the House till 11:30 a.m. in view of the ongoing protest.
The protesting MLAs carried placards with messages like “Where is your ethics and morality?” (Niti naitikata gala kuade) and pressed for the Health Minister to step down. The adjournment came after the ruckus continued despite repeated warnings from the Chair.
The incident highlights rising tensions in the House following the tragic fire at SCB Medical College, which has drawn widespread criticism and political blame.
