Cuttack: In a move aimed at strengthening critical care services, the S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack has ordered the immediate transfer and redeployment of six nursing officers to enhance the functioning of its Medicine Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
The directive, issued under Order No. 2511/SCBMC&H dated September 10, 2026, was signed by the Registrar (Administration) of the hospital. Officials said the reshuffle is part of an administrative effort to optimise staffing in high-dependency units amid increasing patient load and rising demand for intensive care services.
The transfers involve nursing personnel from the Medicine ICU, Central ICU, Neurosurgery ICU, and the 1st Male Medicine Ward. The reassignments are expected to streamline operations, particularly in the MICU located on the first floor, and ensure improved patient management and operational efficiency.
As per the order, Bhagyabati Swain, who was serving as In-Charge of the Medicine ICU, has been transferred to the Central ICU. Nirupama Palei, previously posted in the Central ICU, has been appointed as the new In-Charge of the Medicine ICU (1st floor).
Arijit Mallick has been shifted from the Medicine ICU to the Neurosurgery ICU, while Sanghamitra Panda has been reassigned from the Medicine ICU to the 1st Male Medicine Ward. In a reciprocal arrangement, Sushree Meghashree Rout has been moved from the 1st Male Medicine Ward to the Medicine ICU (1st floor). Additionally, Asmani Oram has been transferred from the Neurosurgery ICU to the Medicine ICU (1st floor).
The order clearly states that the changes “will come into force with immediate effect,” underscoring the urgency attached to reinforcing critical care services.
Hospital authorities indicated that the restructuring is aimed at ensuring better coordination, adequate manpower distribution, and sustained quality of care in one of the state’s premier government-run medical institutions.
