Bhubaneswar: The police have made a startling revelation in the investigation into the alleged sexual assault of two women patients by a doctor at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to Additional DCP Anil Mishra, initial inquiries suggest the accused doctor’s actions were deliberate and in violation of standard operating procedures.
Mishra stated that the accused doctor Dilbagh Singh Thakur intentionally conducted the examination without female staff present, contrary to the protocols. Further, the doctor also didn’t allow the relatives of the patients to remain present in the ECHO room during the examination. He also noted that the examination took 30 minutes, which usually takes 15 minutes, and the doctor had scheduled the procedure on a Sunday instead of the usual Friday.
The police have emphasized that allegations made by the accused doctor and his family are fabricated. The investigation continues, with the police relying on victim testimony and circumstantial evidence to piece together the events.
Notably, senior resident doctor Dibag Singh Thakur of the Cardiology department allegedly sexually assaulted two women patients inside the ECHO room in the absence of any other staff, nurse or relatives of the patients. The relatives of the patients lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station, based on which a case was registered.
The Health department also constituted a three-member panel to investigate the matter and recommend the government for action.
