Nayagarh: Belpada Primary School in Gania block of Nayagarh district reopened on Monday, 34 days after Class V student Bolanath Nayak, was found dead in a nearby abandoned well. The school had been closed since February 3, following the incident.
As per reports, District Collector Madhumita Rath and Additional Superintendent of Police Subas Panda were present when the school was reopened, with two platoons of police force deployed for security.
The student’s family and locals had been protesting, demanding the arrest of two suspended teachers accused of negligence in the boy’s death. The family had also blocked the District Collector’s office, seeking justice.
Meanwhile, students are taking their examinations at a nearby school, Dadhivamana High School, as the Belpada school remains a focal point of tension.
It is pertinent to mention that on February 3, in the afternoon, Bholanath left the school after having his mid-day meal around 1 pm to relieve himself. When he failed to return home, his family members and villagers searched for him and filed a missing person complaint at Gania Police Station. To their utter surprise, Bholanath’s body was found in an open well near the village on February 4.
