Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a Physical Education teacher at Malmanda village school, died after being run over by the Puri-Durg Express train near the railway gate close to the Balangir-Sudpara gas godown on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified Debi Prasad Rout (58).
According to sources, Rout reached the spot by car and suddenly ran onto the railway track. He was subsequently hit by the oncoming train and died on the spot. The incident has triggered discussions of possible suicide.
It is learnt that Rout’s daughter had recently got married a few days ago. However, the exact reason behind his extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
Balangir Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the spot, recovered the body from the railway track, and initiated an investigation.
The body has been sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Further details are awaited as the police continue their probe.
