Bhubaneswar: With the Mahanadi river system and other rivers experiencing heavy water inflow, district administrations of Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak districts have announced the suspension of classes to ensure student safety.
In Jagatsinghpur district, the Collector and District Magistrate has issued an emergency order declaring a holiday for all schools on July 31 and August 1. The order specifically mentions the possible flood situation likely to occur due to heavy inflow of flood water in the Mahanadi System.
Jajpur, Bhadrak and Khordha district administrations earlier already issued similar orders on July 30, suspending classes in all government, government-aided, and private schools, including OAVs and Higher Secondary Schools, for the same two days.
With today’s announcements, four districts in the state have now declared school holidays due to the prevailing flood-like situation and adverse weather.
The orders have been circulated to all Block Education Officers and school heads for immediate compliance.
