Bhubaneswar: The daytime (maximum) temperatures are likely to soar by 3°C to 5°C above normal in the next week disrupting normal life across Odisha, warned the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
Odisha is already experiencing a heat wave and the day temperature has crossed 37°C in several places of the state. Paralakhemundi was the hottest place in the state recording a maximum temperature of 38.2°C. It is apprehended that the mercury may touch 40°C soon.
Meanwhile, a depression has formed in coastal Odisha under the influence of western disturbances. As a result, some places are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the next few days. The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain in some districts of coastal Odisha, especially in north interior Odisha.
Some places in Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj are likely to expect light to moderate rain/thundershowers today. The day temperatures are likely to be below normal in the districts receiving rainfall today. The weather will remain dry in the remaining districts and the temperatures in these places are likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C above normal.
According to the MeT, several districts are likely to receive good rainfall on Saturday. However, the weather will remain dry with the mercury soaring to nearly 40°C from early next week. The temperature is likely to increase by 3°C to 5°C above normal, especially in coastal and interior Odisha.
