Scorching Heatwave Likely To Hit Six Districts Today; Yellow Alert For 17 Others

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for six districts in Odisha today as the state continues to reel under an intense and severe heatwave.

As per the IMD prediction, the districts under the heatwave alert are Khordha, Keonjhar, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Balangir. In addition, a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions has been issued for 17 districts across the state. At the same time, an alert for thunderstorms and rain has also been issued for six districts.

Yesterday, Jharsuguda and Talcher emerged as the hottest places in Odisha, with the maximum temperature touching 44°C in both locations. As many as 24 towns in the state recorded temperatures above 40°C, making the conditions extremely uncomfortable and difficult for daily life.

People, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with health issues, are advised to take necessary precautions, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours between 11 pm and 4 pm, and stay well hydrated.

Relief from the extreme heat is expected to begin from April 26 onwards, when the influence of thunderstorms and rainfall is likely to increase in many parts of the state. While thunderstorms may bring some localized relief today in the alerted districts, the overall heatwave conditions are likely to persist in several areas for one more day.

IMD has urged residents to remain cautious while going about their daily activities and to keep an eye on the improving weather pattern in the coming days.
