Bhubaneswar: A young man allegedly jumped into the Baitarani River from a bridge in Chandabali area of Bhadrak district on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the youth has been identified as Jayarath Mallick, a resident of Baradia village under Rajkanika police station in Kendrapara police station. His shoes and mobile phone were found lying on the bridge over the Baitarani River.
The youth had reportedly left home in the evening. When he did not return home, his family members grew anxious and began searching for him. To their surprise, they found his shoes and mobile phone abandoned on the bridge, raising strong suspicion that he had jumped into the river.
Fire service personnel and police teams from Chandabali police station immediately rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation in the river. The search is currently underway.
Further details regarding the reason behind the incident are yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
