Bhubaneswar: Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNS were imposed outside the Odisha Assembly following a clash between Congress leaders, workers, and police. The clash occurred when five senior Congress leaders, including Niranjan Patnaik, Narasingh Mishra, PCC President Bhakta Das, Jaydev Jena, and Sarat Rout, marched towards the Assembly to meet their party MLAs, 12 of whom were suspended by the Speaker for indiscipline.

The suspended MLAs continued their dharna inside the House, forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the Assembly till the next day. The Speaker also directed Assembly security personnel to remove the agitated legislators. However, the situation escalated, and Congress workers clashed with police outside the Assembly. The Congress protesters were picked up by police.

The police prevented senior Congress leaders, including PCC President Bhakta Das, from entering the Assembly to meet their party MLAs. Later, senior leaders were taken to preventive custody after they remained adamant on their decision to meet their MLAs inside the Assembly.

The 12 suspended Congress MLAs include Congress Legislature Party chief Rama Chandra Kadam, C S Rajan Ekka, Sofia Firdous, Ashok Das, Mangu Khila, Dasarathi Gamango, Satyajit Gamango, Nilamadhab Hikaka, Sagar Das, and Prafulla Pradhan. They were suspended on charges of repeated disorderly conduct, disrespect for the Speaker, and violation of Assembly rules.
