Bhubaneswar: In response to the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the state government has tightened security measures at the Hirakud Dam.
As per reports, a three-layer security system has been put in place, with personnel equipped with modern arms and ammunition, including light machine guns.
The security personnel are vigilantly guarding the dam, and only authorised personnel are allowed access. Tourists have been advised to avoid visiting the dam area as a precautionary measure.
According to sources, the Centre has alerted states to remain vigilant amid the tensions between the two countries. Taking note of the situation, the state government has stepped up security at the dam.
The Sambalpur district administration, in collaboration with state and central security agencies, has rolled out a robust security protocol to safeguard the Hirakud Dam. As Asia’s longest earthen dam, this critical infrastructure plays a vital role in irrigation, power generation, and flood control, making its security of utmost importance.
