Kandhamal: Security arrangements have been beefed up at Jalespata Ashram in Odisha’s Kandhamal district in view of Janmashtami festivities on Monday.

The ashram observes this day as ‘Balidan Diwas’ (Sacrifice Diwas) on the occasion of the death anniversary of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati who was killed along with his four security personnel on August 23, 2008.

Inspector General (IG) of the Southern Range Jai Narayan Pankaj and Superintendent of Police (SP) Suvendu Kumar Patra reviewed security plans for the Janmashtami festival here on Sunday. IG Pankaj held discussion with Baliguda Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rahul Goel and Tumudibandha police station IIC Ashutosh Jena regarding the deployment of the security forces in and around the Jalespata ashram.

Later, Kandhamal SP Shuvendu Kumar Patra told the media that 26 platoons of police force have been deployed in the district. In addition, police patrolling also has been intensified on every route leading to the ashram. Police forces have been deployed at all the major and vulnerable areas to maintain law and order.

Sadhus from across Odisha are expected to participate in the ‘Balidan Diwas’ programme. According to the ashram in-charge Swami Jeevan Prajayamunandpuri, Kalas Puja, Surya Puja, Yagjna, Alati and Purnahuti will be organised on this occasion.
