Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, a joint operation by the COBRA Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Special Operations Group (SOG) has led to the seizure of nearly 2.5 tonnes of explosives in a remote forested area near Koida.
According to reports, the explosives were buried underground in the dense forests of Tiriliposh under the Jareikela police station limits.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs about Maoist activities in the region, the security forces launched a search operation and used metal detectors and sniffer dogs to locate the hidden materials. The seized explosives could have potentially been used in large-scale attacks targeting security forces, infrastructure, or public areas.
The recovered stockpile is currently being analysed to determine its composition and possible origin.
Earlier, approximately explosives weighing four tonnes were stolen from the Banko stone quarry area under Sundargarh’s K. Balang police station. The stolen explosives were believed to have been taken by Maoists, who could have potentially used them for nefarious activities.
