Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan police on Sunday arrested a self-proclaimed godman (baba) for allegedly ‘sexually assaulting’ a minor girl at Kendupatna area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The matter came to light after the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the Nandankanan police station, alleging that the accused had misbehaved with their daughter.
The accused has been identified as Baba Amar Das.
According to reports, the accused was taken into custody by Nandankanan police following allegations of sexual assault against the minor. A case has been registered under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred when the girl had gone to perform a puja. Finding her alone, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Further investigation is underway.
