Bhubaneswar: As Odisha goes for Panchayat polls, separate cases of violence such as attacks on a Minister’s representative and candidates were reported across the State.
Narendra Bisoi, the representative of Minister Padmini Dian, was attacked by some opposition party members at Kasaguda village in Borigumma block of Koraput district.
He has reportedly sustained injuries on his head. Following the attack, he was admitted to Borigumma Community Health Centre (CHC).
Over 50 people from Tichhini village were injured after being attacked by miscreants inside booth number 4 in Alanda panchayat of Puri district. Bombs and stones were hurled during the clash. All injured persons were admitted to Krushnaprasad Community Health Centre (CHC).
Similarly, five persons were injured in an attack by supporters of a political party in Nisibhanra village under Rahadamala panchayat in Puri district. All injured have been admitted to Rebana Nuagaon hospital.
In Sambalpur district, some miscreants open fired at the house of Lalit Kumar Sahu, a Sarpanch candidate from Beunra village in Thelkuli gram panchayat, on late Tuesday night. A complaint in this regard has been lodged at Thelkuli Police Station.
In another incident, some miscreants hurled bombs at the house of Sarpanch candidate, Dilip Das, at Sisua gram panchayat in Salepur block of Cuttack district. Dilip’s wife has been injured in the attack.
Tension was witnessed at Booth Number 11 in Bichitrapur gram panchayat of Jajpur district after a youth attempted to enter the booth forcefully to cast his vote. The polling resumed after the youth was arrested.
Similarly, tension erupted at Booth Number 4 in Sikharpur gram panchayat under Jaleswar block of Balasore district after a Zilla Parishad agent was not offered a seat. The situation normalised after the intervention of the local Tehsildar and BDO. One person was detained in this connection.
