Bhubaneswar: Despite sustained government efforts to raise awareness, human trafficking remains a persistent problem in Odisha. In a recent incident, 17 migrant workers from Balangir district were rescued by police while being trafficked to another state.

The migrant workers, including seven men, eight women, and two children, were lured with promises of employment.

The rescued workers hailed from Deogarh’s Kudasinha village. On a tip-off, police intercepted the group near Larki village in Turkekela block. Two suspects, Madhab Sahu from Belapada’s Tentala village and Dhaneswar Nag from Larki village were arrested in connection with the trafficking.

According to police, the workers were being taken to another state. An investigation is underway to uncover the trafficking network and identify those involved.

The rescued workers are being provided assistance and counselling.
