Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has warned that several districts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy downpours on Tuesday under the influence of a low-pressure area over south Bangladesh. It has issued yellow alerts for heavy rain in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda. The weather in other places in the state is likely to be cloudy.
A yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Koraput, and Kalahandi districts on Thursday.
According to meteorology Professor Surendranath Phupalak, it is likely to rain in many places in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be moderate to heavy rain in some places of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Dhenkanal. Sundargarh, Kandhamal, and Nuapada may experience heavy rain on Wednesday.
Moderate to heavy rain may occur over Sambalpur, Sonepur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Khurda on Thursday.
Odisha recorded 680.5 mm of rain since June this year. Currently, rainfall activity is still 10% less than normal. During this period, Malkangari received more than normal rainfall, while three districts recorded more rainfall and 16 districts recorded normal rainfall. The remaining 11 districts recorded moderate rainfall.
According to the weather office, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form in the North Bay of Bengal early next week.
