Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Balasore district remained critical on Tuesday, with around 100 villages in the northern parts of the district struggling with inundated roads and fields.
The affected villages are spread across four blocks – Bhograi, Baliapal, Jaleswar, and Basta – due to the recent flood in the Subarnarekha river, caused by heavy rainfall and water discharge from Jharkhand.
Similarly, several areas in Mayurbhanj district are also marooned. ODRAF teams have been engaged in rescue and relief operations.

Additionally, the flood in the Jalaka river has impacted some villages under Basta and parts of Balasore Sadar block. Although the water level in the Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers is gradually receding, it remains above or just below the danger mark at Rajghat and Mathani, respectively.
Balasore Collector, accompanied by senior officials, visited and monitored the flood situation in Basta, Jaleswar, Baliapal, and Bhograi. According to an official release, 46 gram panchayats/wards in seven blocks have been affected, with 2,916 people evacuated and housed in 17 shelters till Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Jajpur District Collector P Anvesha Reddy assured that authorities are alert and taking measures in flooded areas of Dasarathpur, Jajpur, Binjharpur, and Korei blocks.
