Severe Heatwave To Scorch Odisha Till April 26, IMD Issues Alerts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Odisha, warning of severe heatwave conditions, hot and humid weather, and unusually warm nights through April 26.

According to the IMD’s special bulletin, severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Jharsuguda today, prompting an orange warning. Heatwave conditions have also been predicted in Boudh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur, while Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, and Sonepur remain under yellow warning.

Hot and humid weather is expected in coastal and interior districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Additionally, warm night conditions may affect Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Bolangir.

On April 23 and 24, Jharsuguda remains under orange alert, while Angul, Nuapada, and Deogarh face heatwave conditions. Coastal districts will continue to experience hot and humid conditions.

By April 25, the orange warning extends to Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Bargarh, and Sonepur, with ongoing heat stress across eastern districts.

On April 26, Bolangir and Bargarh will remain under orange warning, while Boudh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Sambalpur are under yellow alert for heatwave-like conditions. The IMD also maintains warnings for hot and humid conditions in coastal belts.

The IMD has advised residents to take precautionary measures when going outside during peak heat hours to avoid heat-related illnesses.
