Bhubaneswar: Commuters using the busy Jagamara-Barabari route are likely to face traffic snarls for 25 days from September 1 as sewerage pipeline work will trigger diversions and restrictions on the stretch.
The Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, has issued a traffic advisory regulating vehicular movement between Jagamara Square and Barabari Chowk from September 1 to 25, 2026. The restrictions have been imposed following a request from the General Manager, Project Division-III, WATCO, to facilitate the pipeline-laying work.
As per the advisory, one lane of the road will remain closed during the construction period. Vehicles travelling from Jagamara towards Khandagiri will not be allowed to use the affected stretch and will be diverted through Nilakantha Nagar.
Light vehicles coming from the Khandagiri side towards Jagamara, however, will be allowed to ply on the route.
The police have also barred heavy vehicles from using the affected stretch during the diversion period. Buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles travelling between Jagamara Square and Barabari Chowk will have to take alternative routes through Nilakantha Nagar or Baramunda.
The traffic restrictions have been introduced to ensure public safety and maintain smooth vehicular movement while the sewerage pipeline work is underway, the police said.
WATCO authorities have been asked to make public announcements through public address systems and create awareness among commuters through publicity in print, electronic and social media.
The police have advised commuters to avoid the affected stretch as far as possible and take alternative routes to reach their destinations. Motorists have also been asked to follow traffic signs installed at the work site and comply with directions issued by traffic personnel deployed in the area.
The Commissionerate Police has sought the cooperation of commuters and other road users for the smooth and timely completion of the project.
