Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his mother over a monetary dispute at Limadhi village under Rengali police station in Jharsuguda district.

The deceased has been identified as Bhagabati Mirdha (60) while the accused has been identified as Gajadhar Mirdha.

According to police, Bhagabati had three sons. The eldest and youngest sons were employed and supported their families, while the middle son, Gajadhar, was addicted to alcohol and remained unmarried. Gajadhar would often squander money on liquor, prompting his parents to refrain from giving him any funds.

The family had received insurance money, which was deposited in the names of the eldest and youngest sons. Gajadhar demanded his mother, Bhagabati, hand over her ATM card to withdraw the insurance money. However, Bhagabati, fearing he would waste the money on liquor, refused.

Enraged by his mother’s refusal, Gajadhar initially slapped her and then attacked her with a brick, striking her chest.

Upon being informed by Gajadhar, other family members arrived and found Bhagabati critically injured. Gajadhar told them that she had fallen, and her condition suddenly worsened.

Believing his statement, the family first took Bhagabati to Lakhanpur Health Center before rushing her to a private hospital as her condition worsened. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the private hospital.

On a tip-off, police reached the spot and detained Gajadhar. Meanwhile, a scientific team began an investigation and seized the brick used in the crime.

During interrogation, Gajadhar initially claimed his mother had fallen but later confessed to the murder.

The police have registered a murder case and sent the body for post-mortem.
