Bhubaneswar: The depression over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Tuesday evening and is likely to cross the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur by the night of September 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the IMD bulletin issued at 1730 hours IST, the system moved west-northwestwards at a speed of about 7 kmph during the past six hours and was centred over the same region near latitude 18.0°N and longitude 85.4°E.
The deep depression was located about 140 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 150 km south-southeast of Gopalpur, 210 km south-southwest of Puri and 220 km east of Visakhapatnam.
The system is expected to continue its west-northwestward movement and cross the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur as a deep depression by the night of September 23, the weather office said.
