Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the area near the Koraput bus stand on Saturday when the roof of a market complex suddenly collapsed, raising fears that several people might be trapped under the rubble.
According to reports, multiple people were inside the shop complex when loud cracking sounds were heard, prompting some to flee just moments before the structure gave way. The market housed three shops—a bakery, a betel shop, and a lassi shop—where both shopkeepers and customers were caught off guard during peak business hours.
Rescue teams from the Fire Services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and local police swiftly arrived at the scene and launched intensive operations to locate and rescue any victims still trapped under the debris. One injured person has already been rescued and taken to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of casualties or those trapped. Efforts to clear the debris and ensure the safety of the area are ongoing.
Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
