Bhubaneswar: The Special Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday rejected the bail applications of three prime accused in the multi-crore Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam involving manipulation of OMR sheets and marks.
Special Judge Subash Kumar Behari rejected the bail pleas moved by Shankar Prusty, Suresh Nayak, and Sagar Gouda after hearing arguments from both sides. The court observed that the trio played a key role in the scam and their release at this stage could hamper the ongoing investigation and influence witnesses.
Meanwhile, another accused, Arabinda Das, who allegedly acted as an agent and middleman in the racket, withdrew his bail application through his counsel during the hearing.
The Crime Branch had arrested all four accused earlier after unearthing a well-organised syndicate that allegedly collected huge amounts from aspirants in exchange for ensuring their selection in the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination.
