Bhubaneswar: Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be on a two-day visit to Odisha from Friday. He will be accompanied by a nine-member delegation comprising leaders from business and leading academic institutions.
During his visit to the state, Shanmugaratnam will hold discussions with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other ministers with a view to reinforce the economic ties between Odisha and Singapore and explore mutual opportunities. Chief Minister Majhi will also hold a state banquet in honour of the visiting President.
The Skill Development and Technical Education (SD&TE) department of the state government and ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore, are scheduled to ink an MoU between at the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar to augment the skill development network in Odisha.
Odisha also plans to collaborate with Singapore in a number of other areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), aerospace technology, avionics, marine engineering, retail, electronics, semiconductor and renewable energy. The two-day visit of Shanmugaratnam will also decide on cooperation in setting up a world centre for information technology (WCIT) and Information Technology-enabled services (ITES). The island nation will also help Odisha by sharing knowledge support for establishment of zonal industrial training institutes (ITIs) across the state with emphasis on enhanced intake capacity, introduction of new trades and robust industry engagement will be part of the agreements.
Tharman is scheduled to visit the Sun Temple at Konark and the Bharat Biotech vaccine manufacturing unit at Info Valley-II on Saturday.
