Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police took six accused, arrested for running a fake call center and duping people, into 3-day remand.
The police obtained permission from the Bhubaneswar court to further investigate the matter. The accused will undergo intense interrogation during the remand period. Additionally, a special team from the Commissionerate Police will visit the accused’s residences in Kolkata as part of the investigation, said sources.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were engaged in widespread cyber fraud, both domestically and internationally, including duping American citizens by falsely offering software products and antivirus services. The scam reportedly netted them over Rs 2 crore.
Authorities are currently scrutinizing the suspects’ bank accounts to determine the total amount defrauded.
The suspects, all hailing from West Bengal, are described as highly educated individuals running the fake call center from a flat in Kanchan Apartment, Sundarpada.
The police are likely to uncover more details about the scam and the involvement of other individuals during the investigation.
