Bhubaneswar: A court in Nayagarh today awarded life imprisonment to six persons and acquitted 10 others in a murder case that had taken place 22 years ago in the district.
Two accused involved in the case have already died during the trial.
The additional district and sessions court in Odagaon also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts failing which they would undergo six months more imprisonment.
The court pronounced the verdict 22 years after the murder of Madan Nayak of Keshapania village under Sarankula police station in Nayagarh district.
Madan was killed by the mob using bombs and sticks and cutters. Several people had also sustained injuries while trying to save him.
As many as 18 accused were arrested in this case. 10 people have been acquitted while two have already died. Six other accused were found guilty by the court.
