Paradip: Six persons held for protesting against the proposed JSW project at Dhinkia village under Erasama block in Jagatsinghpur district were sent for a court trial on Saturday.

The six identified as Debendra Swain, Murali Sahu, Narendra Mohanty, Tirtha Mallik, and Manguli Kandi had been arrested by police late Friday night. After yesterday’s police action, many villagers have gone into hiding.

On Friday, police resorted to lathi-charge after a face-off with the villagers of Dhinkia. The scuffle took place when the police tried to stop the villagers at the entry point to their village from taking out a rally against the JSW project.

Over a hundred villagers including women were injured when police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse them. The police barged into Dhinkia village and charged the protestors with batons sparing none, not even women and children forcing them to run helter-skelter.
