Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress have called for a 6-hour shutdown in Chandbali block of Bhadrak district from 6 am to 12 noon today, protesting the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl.
Party workers have blocked several roads by burning tyres. Shops and commercial establishments remained closed due to the bandh. The opposition demands justice for the victim, alleging that the law and order situation has deteriorated.

The girl’s body was found naked near the Baligaon panchayat office on Tuesday evening, sparking widespread outrage and protests.
The main accused, Babul Das, was arrested from Jagatsinghpur district, but angry locals vandalised his house.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family and assured strict punishment for the accused. The Congress party has demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation and criticised the government’s handling of women’s safety.
