Dhenkanal: A six-year-old girl was trampled to death when she was asleep at Handifuta under Motunga police limits in Dhenkanal district, late Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Pihu, daughter of Nanda Naik of Handifuta village.
According to sources, Pihu was sleeping when the rough tusker strayed into her house last night and trampled her to death. However, two others in the family had a lucky escape.
Following the mishap, villagers blocked Hindol-Gudiakateni Road, disrupting vehicular movement. Upon being informed, Motunga police and Forest Department officials reached the spot and pacified the agitators to lift the blockade.
