Bhubaneswar: After a long wait amidst extreme heatwave conditions, the Southwest monsoon finally covered the entire State on Sunday.
“The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of the Arabian Sea, Gujarat state; remaining parts of Maharashtra; some more parts of Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh; remaining parts of Odisha and some parts of Jharkhand.” read an IMD bulletin.
IMD bulletin also stated about a cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha adjoining Chattisgarh, which now lies over south Chhattisgarh between 1.5 and 7.6 km above the mean sea level.
Whereas, the Northern Limit of Monsoon continues to pass through 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/63°E, 20.5°N/70°E, Veraval, Rajpipla, Ujjain, Vidisha, Siddhi, Chaibasa, Haldia, Pakur, Sahibganj and Raxaul.
Light to Moderate Rainfall has occurred at a few places over the districts of Odisha, including Nabarangpur, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Khordha, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Angul, Nayagarh and Sundargarh.
The highest maximum temperature of 38.0°C was recorded at Nuapada and the lowest minimum temperature of 22.0°C was recorded at Nabarangpur district.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected in scattered locations across the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, and Rayagada.
The IMD has also cautioned farmers and fishermen to remain alert amidst the changing weather for the upcoming 5 days.
In South Coastal Odisha, maximum temperatures notably decreased at a few locations, while in Interior Odisha, temperatures saw a noticeable increase at one or two places. Elsewhere in the state, temperature changes were minimal.
Additionally, temperature anomalies were noted across different regions. Interior Odisha experienced temperatures below normal at one or two places, contrasting with Coastal Odisha, where temperatures were above normal at a few locations. Moreover, some places in Interior Odisha also reported above-normal temperatures, while temperatures remained within the normal range in the rest of the districts.
