Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is withdrawing from Odisha. This process, which started on October 13, is likely to end on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the monsoon has completely withdrawn from Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. It has also retreated from most parts of Bolangir, Kandhamal, and Ganjam districts and parts of Nuapada and Kalahandi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from the rest of the state by Tuesday (October 15).
Odisha received normal rainfall during the monsoon season this year, but the state has received scanty rainfall during the last fortnight.
The IMD said that the state received 1,092 mm of rain between June 1 and September 30, which is 5 per cent less than normal. Maximum rainfall of 1,982.1 mm was recorded in Malkangari district while 1,236.6 mm rain was recorded in Nuapada district. Rainfall in all other districts was normal. Since the post-monsoon season no district in the state received normal rainfall.
On the other hand, a low pressure area has formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal.
