Bhubaneswar: Two senior Odisha-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officers—Sudhanshu Sarangi (1990 batch) and Padmakar S. Ranpise (1995 batch)—have been empanelled by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for appointment to Director General (DG) or equivalent-level posts in the Government of India.
According to an official communication issued on June 12, 2026, the empanelment enables the officers to be considered for senior-level assignments at the Centre across various ministries and central armed police organisations.
A total of 33 IPS officers from different state cadres and batches, primarily from the 1990 and 1995 batches, have been included in the latest empanelment list. The Odisha cadre is represented by Sarangi and Ranpise among the selected officers.
Empanelment at the DG level is a mandatory requirement for IPS officers to be eligible for appointment to top positions in central security and administrative organisations.
Sarangi, a 1990-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as Director General, Fire Services, Commandant General of Home Guards, and Director, Civil Defence. In his previous assignments in Odisha, he has served as Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack and Chairman of the Odisha Police Housing Corporation.
Ranpise, a 1995-batch IPS officer, is currently on central deputation as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
