Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, one person died and two others sustained critical injuries after a speeding car rammed into a group of Kanwariyas near the Nischintakoili Tahasil office in Cuttack district on Sunday night.
The deceased Kanwariya has been identified as, Chinmayee Behera, a 22-year-old woman from Baspada village in Jiginipur, Cuttack.
The two others who sustained critical injuries were Dipti Ranjan Rout and Purna Chandra Behera.
According to reports, on Sunday night, 37 Kanwariyas from Jiginipur were on their way to Siddheswar Mahadev Temple in Paikarapur when a speeding vehicle hit them near the Nischintakoili Tahasil office.
The accident occurred while some Kanwariyas were waiting for other members accompanying them after collecting water from Babujung village.
The speeding car first rammed into three Kanwariyas from behind and then collided with the pickup van parked on the roadside.
On learning about the incident, locals rushed to the spot and admitted the three injured persons to Nischintakoili Hospital, where doctors pronounced Chinmayee Behera dead.
The other two Kanwariyas who sustained critical injuries were immediately shifted to Cuttack Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police officials have initiated an investigation into the matter, apprehending the vehicle, and the accused driver.
