Bargarh: Fulfilling a long-pending aspiration of the local residents, Odisha’s Minister for Sports Suryabanshi Suraj on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 50-metre-long swimming pool at Ramakrishna Nagar Ambashadha in Bargarh.
The foundation-laying ceremony marked a significant boost to sports infrastructure in the district and was attended by several prominent public representatives and officials.
Bargarh District Collector Aditya Goyal, Bargarh MLA Ashwini Sarangi, Bijepur MLA Sanat Gadatia, and Atabira MLA Nihar Mahanand were present on the occasion, along with other dignitaries and local leaders.
Speaking at the event, the minister said the proposed swimming pool would help nurture sporting talent in the region and encourage youth participation in competitive sports. He noted that the facility would provide modern training opportunities for aspiring swimmers and contribute to the overall development of sports culture in western Odisha.
Local residents and sports enthusiasts welcomed the initiative, describing it as the realisation of a long-standing demand. The project is expected to play a key role in promoting physical fitness, organised sports training, and talent identification at the grassroots level in Bargarh district.
Officials stated that the swimming pool would be developed with standard specifications to meet competitive requirements and would be accessible to athletes as well as the general public once completed.
