Bhubaneswar: Following the seizure of spurious drugs for treating blood pressure patients, pharma major Glenmark has advised consumers to check for the authentic product before buying medicines. Glenmark has advised consumers to buy medicines from authorised drug stores and chemists. In an advisory issued by the company on Thursday, Glenmark condemned duplication of medicines Telma 40 and Telma AM, produced by it.
The statement read: “We at Glenmark, strongly condemn the counterfeiting of our products, Telma 40 and Telma AM in Cuttack, Odisha. We are a responsible corporate citizen and pride ourselves on patient safety. In that respect, we are taking all necessary measures, including closely working with the government authorities, to address this counterfeiting menace.”
“To avoid being taken in by counterfeit products in the future, we recommend our consumers to purchase medicines only from authorised drug stores and chemists, thus ensuring product authenticity and their safety. In case of any queries, Glenmark advised the consumers to contact its Global Customer Service Team at Global.CustomerService@glenmarkpharma.com.”
On September 8, officials of the Directorate of Drugs Control carried out raids in Cuttack and seized spurious samples of Telma 40 and Telma AM from a few chemist shops. On the basis of a complaint by the DDC, the Commissionerate of Police registered an FIR and arrested two persons in this case.
The police during the investigation found that fake drugs were being procured from Bengaluru and Gaya by two distributors in Cuttack and supplied to around 100 retailers in the city. The owners of these firms surrendered before police and were arrested.
