Cuttack: In a swift operation to ensure public health during the ongoing Bali Yatra 2025, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted surprise raids on food stalls at the fairground on Saturday morning.
Teams led by CMC Health Officer and Food Safety Officers inspected multiple stalls, seizing and destroying large quantities of stale and expired food items. Vendors found selling substandard food were immediately fined.
According to reports, the world-famous Bali Yatra, which began on Kartik Purnima, has drawn massive crowds daily, with thousands visiting the fair, shopping, and enjoying food from hundreds of stalls. However, reports of stale food being served prompted the CMC Food Safety Unit to swing into action. Raids were carried out across various stalls from early morning. Stale snacks, cooked food, and other perishable items past their safe consumption period were confiscated on the spot and destroyed. Fines were collected from the erring stall owners. The CMC has warned all vendors to strictly adhere to food safety norms and has announced continued surprise checks throughout the fair.
Bali Yatra, one of Asia’s largest open-air trade fairs, continues to attract huge crowds, but authorities remain vigilant to prevent any food-related health risks.
