Bhubaneswar: In a fitting tribute to one of Odisha’s most revered musical icons, a statue of Prafulla Kar was unveiled at Rabindra Mandap on his birth anniversary today. The ceremony was organised under the auspices of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture.
The statue was formally unveiled by the Minister for Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Suryabanshi Suraj, who paid floral tributes to the legendary musician. Remembering his immense contribution to Odia music, the Minister said that Prafulla Kar’s melodies would remain eternally cherished in the hearts of music lovers across the state.
Highlighting his artistic journey, Suraj noted that Prafulla Kar carved a distinct identity for himself through his exceptional music direction and compositions, significantly enriching the Odia music industry. He added that the Padma Shri awardee’s life and legacy continue to serve as an inspiration for the younger generation of musicians. His timeless creations, the Minister said, would motivate aspiring artists to uphold and advance Odisha’s rich musical heritage.
The programme witnessed the presence of Secretary of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Special Secretary Deb Prasad Dash, Deputy Director Debajani Bhuyan, along with prominent members of Prafulla Kar’s family and admirers from the cultural fraternity.
The unveiling ceremony marked a significant moment in honouring the enduring legacy of the maestro, whose contribution to Odia music remains unparalleled.
