Bhubaneswar: A significant increase in the number of male sterilisations compared to females has been reported in Odisha.
In response to a query by BJD MLA from Rajanagar, Kendrapara, Dhruba Charan Sahoo, on Family Planning in the Odisha Assembly on Monday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling stated in writing that special importance has been given to surgical methods of family control in the state. The popularity of surgical contraceptive methods remains intact and is growing.
To promote surgical contraception among the people, World Population Day is observed throughout the nation on July 11, Said, Dr Mahaling.
Details of surgical sterilisation for three years were attached in the written response.
From 2021-22 to 2023-24, a total of 4,352 men and 255,470 women have undergone surgical contraception procedures in the state.
To promote the surgical method of contraception and family planning among the people, the government is providing an incentive amount of Rs. 2000 for male sterilisation and Rs. 1400 for female sterilisation. Beneficiaries are receiving Rs. 2200 for post-delivery sterilisation.
