Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended Md Aslam, the mastermind behind an illegal arms racket, from Munger, Bihar. Aslam was involved in supplying arms to manufacturers in Odisha, particularly in Cuttack’s Bada Dhabaleswar village.
According to investigations, Aslam had been visiting Bada Dhabaleswar village to collect half-made pistols from accused persons Md Azam alias Budhu and Md Abid Husain. The STF had been tracking Aslam’s movements based on intelligence inputs and conducted a raid in Munger on May 20, 2025, with the help of local police.
Aslam was arrested and produced before the local court in Munger before being brought to Bhubaneswar on a three-day transit remand. He will be presented before the Judicial Magistrate in Cuttack.
The case dates back to March 13, 2025, when the STF detected an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Bada Dhabaleswar village, recovering a large quantity of materials used to make 7mm pistols. Five accused persons were earlier arrested and forwarded in the case.
Aslam has a previous record of involvement in an arms-related case in Kolkata, for which he was imprisoned until June 23, 2021. The STF’s latest arrest marks a significant breakthrough in their efforts to dismantle the illegal arms racket in Odisha.
