Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of the State Crime Branch seized a leopard skin from a native of Daringbadi during a raid carried out in Kandhamal district on Saturday night. The alleged poacher has been identified as Bipin Nayak of Pangali village under Daringbadi police limits.
During search a leopard skin and other incriminating items were recovered from his possession. Nayak could not produce any authority in support of possession the skin following which he was detained, the STF said. “The person has been handed over to Daringbadi Forest officials for appropriate legal action at their end. An enquiry is on,” an STF official said.
The special drive against the wildlife criminals/poachers is on. So far, the STF has seized 27 leopard skin, 15 elephant tusks, 7 deer skin, 12 pangolins, 23.5kg pangolin scales, two leopard teeth, 29 leopard claws, and 46 wild parrots. Total 64 wildlife criminals have been arrested during these raids.
