Balasore: An elderly woman was mauled to death by a stray dog at Narayanpur village under Bhograi police limits in Balasore district, on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Basanti Sahu, was sitting outside her house when the stray dog attacked her. The woman suffered severe injuries on various parts of her body, sources said.
Family members rushed to her aid after hearing her screams and managed to chase the dog away. However, Basanti died shortly after due to the severity of her injuries.
Following the attack, villagers chased away the stray dog, beating it severely. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman died shortly thereafter due to the severity of her injuries.
The incident has left the family in mourning. Villagers meanwhile demanded compensation and assistance for the bereaved family. Meanwhile, the local administration initiated an inquiry, with the tehsildar dispatching a team to investigate the incident.
