Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old drowned in the Kuakhai river on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar while bathing with four of his friends today.
The deceased, Ankan Tripathi, is a B. Pharma student from West Bengal. Ankan and his other friends were studying at a private university in the city. He was bathing in the river with four friends near the Baliyatra ghat when strong currents swept him and another friend away.
While the other friend was rescued safely by locals, Ankan went missing. A two-hour rescue operation was conducted by fire services teams from Pahala and Mancheswar, and his body was recovered. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The river has claimed many lives in the past, and such incidents continue to occur every year.
