Sonepur: One student was killed on the spot, while two others sustained grave injuries when they were hit by a car while crossing a road outside their school in Odisha’s Sonepur.
The deceased has been identified as Subrat Bera, while Rajesh Bera and Raja Bera have been critically injured in the accident.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred near Sharadhapalli Chhak at around 11.0 am on Wednesday while they were crossing the road in front of their school. A speeding Scorpio hit the students. Reacting to the incident, locals chased the killer vehicle and stop it at a distance from the accident spot.
On being informed, Sonepur police reached the spot and rushed the injured students to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The vehicle has been seized and taken to the police station. The driver of the Scorpio has been detained by the police.
Meanwhile, the gruesome accident has sparked tension in the region with people demanding stringent punishment for the accused and compensation to the kin of the deceased and injured.
