Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a thought-provoking sand sculpture on Puri Beach, conveying a powerful message about the dangers of tobacco consumption.
The sand art depicted a poignant scene of a youth’s skeletal remains, symbolising the devastating impact of tobacco. Alongside, a woman and child were shown mourning the loss of their loved one, highlighting the emotional toll of tobacco-related deaths.
According to Sudarsan Pattnaik, approximately 8 million people worldwide and 1 million in India succumb to tobacco-related illnesses annually. Through his art, he urged the global community to raise awareness about the risks of tobacco and strive for a tobacco-free world.
The theme of Sudarsan’s sand art emphasises the importance of quitting tobacco before it’s too late. His powerful creation serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of tobacco consumption and the need for collective action to prevent tobacco-related deaths.
Taking to his X handle, he wrote: “#WorldNoTobaccoDay : Through this installation, I hope to remind people that tobacco addiction doesn’t just harm individuals—it deeply affects families and communities. Let’s choose health over habit. #SayNoToTobacco. My sand art at Puri beach.”
