Sundaragada: A court in Sundaragada on Wednesday sentenced 58-year-old Malaki Buda to life imprisonment for murdering a woman in Chhatam village under Rajgangapur police station in 2019.
The Additional Sessions Judge Court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Buda. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, according to the court order.
According to the case details, Buda had gone to a Canara Bank branch in Rajgangapur on November 11, 2019, carrying bank-related documents. Co-villager Hilarus Kerketta and his wife Phulitamani had also visited the bank on the same day. After Buda found that his documents were missing, he suspected Phulitamani of stealing them and allegedly developed a grudge against her.
On November 23, 2019, at around 11 am, Phulitamani was working alone in her paddy field when Buda allegedly attacked her with a stone, resulting in her death.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police registered a murder case on November 25, 2019, and arrested Buda on November 28 before producing him in court.
After examining the evidence, investigation report and other materials presented during the trial, the court convicted Buda and pronounced the sentence on Wednesday. Assistant Public Prosecutor R.P. Beck conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
